If the usual treatments of ice or heating or massage don't help then it may be time to see your foot specialist to get professional advice.

This is a syndicated (and edited) article

Physical therapy aids individuals recovering from injuries to get back their strength and dexterity. Even in the case of foot injuries and excruciating foot conditions physical therapy can provide significant relief.

If the usual treatments of ice or heating or massage don’t help then it may be time to see your foot specialist to get professional advice. Once that’s done, and with the approval of your professional, some very effective foot therapy exercises can provide additional relief to alleviate the pain. Below you will find three effective exercises that can help.

Plantar Fasciitis Can Be Relieved with the Right Exercises

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most uncomfortable foot problems to suffer from. This disorder, if not cared for promptly, may result in the formation of excess bone projections that can poke into muscles, nerves, and tendons, causing severe pain. Despite the fact that athletes and dancers tend suffer from this injury, anyone can experience it.

Plantar fasciitis treatment may include surgical intervention to extract the bone spur that has developed inside of the foot. Despite the fact that surgical intervention sometimes cannot be avoided due to the severity of the condition, physical therapy can be recommended to lessen the pain and hopefully encourage healing of the foot. According to sports therapists, stretching exercises can help”provide significant relief.” One such exercise is to stand up and flex the front portion of the foot towards the face, such as on a wedge or ramp. Then, with straightened legs, lean the body forward, gently, to allow for a complete stretch.

Painful Foot Conditions Can Be Caused From Flat Feet

Treatment for “flat feet” is necessary when an individual has extremely low arches and does not use appropriate arch support in their foot gear. Adequate support can be provided to the foot by wearing
orthotic insoles. For treating low foot arches, the foot should be examined by a medical doctor if acute aching of the foot arches or stabbing heel discomfort are occurring. After the examination has been done, ultrasound therapy has proven to be effective in treating the pain related to this condition.

Since the problem with low foot arches is an overstretched arch that stretches down and touches the ground, the therapeutic treatment can involve massage, which can assist in relieving the pain. Orthotics worn in the shoes is the best course of action.

Painful Foot Conditions Can Be Caused by Overpronation

Pronation is a is part of the normal movement of the foot during physical activity. However, when the foot tends towards the outside (under-pronation) or instead tends inside (over-pronation), painful conditions can result. In the latter, the arch takes on the full force of the body’s load and can flatten over time as well as lead to plantar fasciitis.

Wearing orthotic insoles is the ideal treatment for irregular pronation, and can assist in healing the problem. Strengthening moves for the arches, such as standing on tip-toes and flexing the foot while sitting down can help. See your podiatrist if pain persists.

Our feet are vital to nearly every activity we do. Taking care of your feet is one of the smartest things you can do for your overall well-being.

The power and peacefulness of an Asian Massage session must be experienced in person in order to know how invigorating and stress-relieving it can be.

The power and peacefulness of an Asian Massage session must be experienced in person in order to know how invigorating and stress-relieving it can be. While Asia has always long been regarded as the origin for varied cultural and alternate health practices, not many people are aware of the five basic Asian massage techniques and their amazing benefits.

There are many different types of massages in the world, each with its own basic techniques and benefits for those who believe in taking up activities to nourish mind and body. Among the most popular are Shiatsu, Acupressure, Amma (or anma), Ayurvedic, and Champissage.

Shiatsu massage originated from Japan and focuses on using the fingers to manipulate the acupuncture points and thereby controlling and balancing the flow of life energy (chi, or qi) that passes through the body. Shiatsu brings about self-healing through redirecting the body’s own energies by applying slow pressure and stimulating blood flow, which in turn, brings about a sense of relief and relaxation.

Acupressure is a Chinese technique for bringing rest from pain for the human body and focuses on using the fingers to press focal points on the body so tension and stress built up in the body is released and good sleep is ensured It is also a reported to be helpful for treating anxiety problems.

Anma is yet another Japanese healing technique. It means “to press and to rub”and it combines different limb movements to help a person experience peace and to relieve pain and stress.Unlike Western Massage, with its oils and skin to skin contact, Anma utilizes no oils and can be done through the clothing with the client either sitting or lying down. An Anma massage can be applied pretty much at any time or place and can be given to oneself, as well as others. This makes Anma an extremely flexible style of massage, suitable to a wide variety of client needs and environments.

Ayurvedic massage is an Indian form of body massage and is used to bring about various beneficial effects, typical of most Asian massage types, and to cleanse the body of toxins. It is based on vigorous hand strokes to bring about a sense of peacefulness and restore balance in the body. It typically uses warm oil and concoctions of herbs to get the right results and sometimes the massage oil is poured into the ears, between the brows, and onto other specific energy points, all with the client’s permission, of course.

Champissage, also known as Indian Head Massage, has its root in Ayuveda; it is a technique that mainly deals with treating the upper half of the body in the aim of promoting blood circulation in the scalp. It nourishes the hair roots, but the feel-good feeling persists as the masseur also massages the client’s face, neck, ears, neck, shoulders, and upper arms to get all the cricks out. It is believed to relieve headaches, eye-strain and energize a person.

Save yourself from the search to find a Shiatsu practitioner in your area, we now offer a Shiatsu massager that you can use to feel ‘lighter’ and more relaxed than ever before!

Treat yourself to a good shiatsu massage and feel the stress melt away

There are many remedies for relieving stress and tension, two things that are hard to avoid in the complexities of modern life for any age-group, but among the most enjoyable and peaceable ones is opting for a good Shiatsu massage.

Medical research has pointed out that many of today’s health problems are due to stress, which can be caused also from improper diets, following an unhealthy life style, time and financial and relationship pressures, and so on. The common factor among all these possible causes for stress is that no matter what the source, it has a damaging effect on the body’s systems.

This is why it is important to banish stress and also eliminate the factors that create it. If this is not immediately possible (it frequently isn’t) the best way out is to take up proven stress-relieving techniques, such as massage therapy

Of course, you can always choose medication for relieving your stress. While taking pills is easy, popular, and even advertised on the TV, it is not a good recommendation as either a long-term or even a safe solution.

This is why therapies such as Shiatsu massage have gained so much popularity, with so many people having experienced first-hand the benefits and the joys of a good, therapeutic massage. They have benefited from the careful manipulation of body tissues that relax mind, body, muscle, sinew, nerves and much more, releasing not only muscular tension and metabolic waste, but also promoting nutrient delivery for hastening tissue healing.

The Shiatsu massage therapy basically releases endorphines (the happy hormones) and combines comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, specific body part healing techniques, pathology and even human psychology. If you don’t have a partner handy to perform the massage then look into a massager device, such as a massage chair or chair insert.

A long hard day in the office (or whereever) sometimes leaves us with those aches and pains that just annoying. A knot on your back, tightening muscles on the legs and arms, everybody has experienced these at least one time or twice in our lives.

Some people opt to ignore these knots and pains, calling them just their daily due, Others opt to fight back, perhaps with an Excedrin.

You don’t have to suffer this discomfort anymore. By spending a few minutes a day, or even at the end of the week, you can recharge yourself and be prepared for the new week ahead. No need to go thru the new week with no energy. Massage is the answer, of course. You can either work your muscles yourself or hire a professional. There are even some services which will come to the office and work ouit the kinks right there.

One of the biggest time constraints that people have is the time it requires to go from one place to another with all of the traffic and other things that demand more of our time. One way is to get a massage where you usually are and that place is work. There is a reason employees are called working stiffs, but with some straightforward massage techniques, you can get some relaxation while you crunch up those numbers and push those papers.

Self massage is a good way to work out many of the aches and pains, but a masseaur can reach places you’ll never touch. That trick is to let the pros and their fingertips do the work.

For a 14 day e-course in self-massage go here.

Massage therapy is a broad term that encompasses a wide variety of healing procedures and methods and is generally composed of pressing, rubbing and manipulating muscles...

Massage therapy is a broad term that encompasses a wide variety of healing procedures and methods and is generally composed of pressing, rubbing and manipulating muscles and soft body tissues such as tendons, ligaments, skin and connective tissues.

The main objective of massage therapy is to relax the soft tissues while promoting an increased delivery of blood and oxygen to the areas being massages and, therefore, to decrease tightness and pain and stress. Massage therapy is most often accomplished by utilizing the massage therapist’s own fingers, hands, arms, elbows and/or feet. Occasionally, however, mechanical and electronic devices may be also used.

Massage Therapy is an umbrella term for a whole series of more specific body manipulation therapies. As a matter of fact, there are more than eighty official types of massage therapy treatments, as well as many unofficial types, but a few of the most widely known therapies are the following:

* The Deep Tissue Massage. This technique uses a combination of strokes and deep finger pressure applied way down under the skin and into the muscles at the painful sites in order to breakup knots and loosen tightness.

* The Trigger Point Massage. This procedure is also known as the Pressure Point Massage and it is more focused on specific myofascial trigger points with a stronger force than the Deep Tissue Massage. The goal here is to dissolve the painful knots that were formed in the muscles as well as to relieve additional symptoms in more remote areas of the body.

* The Swedish Massage. This system utilizes oblong smooth strokes, kneading and friction of the muscles as well as movement of the joints to increase their range of motion and flexibility.

* The Shiatsu Massage. Using altering rhythmic pressure, tapping, squeezing, and rubbing along the meridian lines and on various other parts of the body, the main objective of this Eastern massage therapy is to enhance the flow of the gi (also, Ki or Chi.) This energy, in the lore of ancient Chinese medicine, is believed to be the life force that regulates a person’s spiritual, emotional, mental and physical wellness. it is easily affected when subjected to the rival forces of yin and yang.

The massage therapies mentioned above, as well as all the others, are also referred to as complimentary alternative medicine (also known as CAM.) Regardless of the specific therapy used, there are important points to be considered:

No massage therapy should ever be used in place of regular or ongoing medical care. It’s a complement, not a replacement.

Massage therapy should not be the cause or the excuse to postpone visiting a medical professional for existing medical issues.

Make sure you are comfortable with your massage therapist’s schooling, credentials, and technique as well as his or her experience with specific health and medical conditions.

Any additional complimentary alternative medicine (CAM) such as herbs, supplements, special diets or other treatments which are suggested by the massage therapist must first be reviewed with a medical professional.

If and when massage therapy is performed, preferably by a well trained and experienced professional, few risks are involved and the worst of them may simply be temporary pain or discomfort, bruising, swelling or an allergic reaction to the massage oils.

The small number of serious injuries which have been reported were triggered by untrained hands that were not aware that certain medical conditions should not be massaged. It is, therefore, essential to consult a qualified professional before undergoing massage therapy as a primary treatment for whatever condition you may have. Here are several conditions where any form of massage therapy should be done under qualified supervision:

Deep vein thrombosis

A bleeding disorder or when taking blood thinners

Damaged blood vessels

Weakened bones from osteoporosis, a recent fracture or cancer

The presence of high body temperature

Open or healing wounds, tumors, damaged nerves, an infection, a severe inflammation or fragile skin

Pregnancy

Heart problems

Dermatomyositis or any other skin disease

History of physical abuse

Certainly the various massage therapies are great for loosening tight muscles, relieving stress, increasing blood flow to an area, and so on. The effect this this has on the various hormones of the body, as well as on the positive mental outlook are certainly beneficial. Just make sure that if you have a serious condition that you’re working with a professional, as well.

Without a proper massage table, many clients are apt to go home with posture problems instead of a fully relaxed body.

The world of the masseuse is an engaging and eclectic one and her work is made better with quality massage tables. These tables can transform the entire experience of the massage into something that is safer, more practical, easier on the masseuse, and easier on the cliet. Without a proper table, many clients are apt to go home with posture problems instead of a fully relaxed body.

If you are giving a Swedish massage, for example, decent massage tables are of extreme importance. Without proper posture and proper height of the patient, proper Swedish massage may not be possible. Massage tables can turn a stooped-over, unfulfilling Swedish massage experience into a life-changing event.

Another form of massage that requires proper massage tables is stone therapy. The stones are laid on the patient and then manipulated. A proper massage table will stabilize the patient for the stone therapy, making it much more effective. Without the proper massage tables, stone therapy may actually be ineffectual and somewhat dangerous.

Most businesses that offer some form of spa massage do have the proper massage tables. This allows the masseuse to work with his or her hands fully and have the client at the perfect height for the best results, instead of relying on poor posture and other manipulations to get at the body parts that need the most work. One of the reasons spa massage sites provide such a good experience is because they have the proper equipment, making for a wondrous and relaxing time.

Massage tables can be found almost anywhere that massage equipment is sold. These stores commonly allow the purchasers to relax on the table and see if it “fits right” before making the purchase.

All in all, a good massage table can add so much to the experience of the massage. They can increase the ability of the masseuse to get around to the body parts that need the most attention and they can improve the comfort of the patient. Massage tables are the most important advantage that a masseuse can have besides his or her hands.

I was browsing around on YouTube and found this video. It’s an introduction to Rolfing and it outlines some of the ideas and principles. Turn your volume up a bit as the narrator has a soft voice.

Dr. Ida Rolf wrote the book on the subject: Rolfing: Reestablishing the Natural Alignment and Structural Integration of the Human Body for Vitality and Well-Being, which you can find at Amazon. it’s not a “how to” book, but it covers the concepts and anatomy quite well.

This book: Rolfing Structural Integration What It Achieves, How It Works and Whom It Helps, covers the 10 lessons of Rolfing as well as adding more detail to Dr. Rolf’s book. It does cover more “how to” info.
