What to do if Obamacare is signed into law.

Well, Comrade Obama’s chance of getting his/some/any healthcare package passed is looking like it might actually be possible. Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead!

But if this horrible thing passes, even by foul methods, there are alternatives. The excellent American Thinker blog has a post that details a few ideas:

I have done everything I could to help prevent ObamaCare. I have signed petitions, written letters to my representatives, and penned various articles for American Thinker. Still, I have a growing fear that ObamaCare might happen, so I decided that it would be wise to have a “Plan B” for myself just in case.

As I see it, coverage for an additional thirty million Americans is going to mean an eventual shortage of doctors and care. Despite what President Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi tell us, ObamaCare is going to result in the rationing of health care. When that happens, I want to be ready.

Here’s the rest: What I Will Do If ObamaCare Passes

A long hard day in the office (or whereever) sometimes leaves us with those aches and pains that just annoying. A knot on your back, tightening muscles on the legs and arms, everybody has experienced these at least one time or twice in our lives.

Some people opt to ignore these knots and pains, calling them just their daily due, Others opt to fight back, perhaps with an Excedrin.

You don’t have to suffer this discomfort anymore. By spending a few minutes a day, or even at the end of the week, you can recharge yourself and be prepared for the new week ahead. No need to go thru the new week with no energy. Massage is the answer, of course. You can either work your muscles yourself or hire a professional. There are even some services which will come to the office and work ouit the kinks right there.

One of the biggest time constraints that people have is the time it requires to go from one place to another with all of the traffic and other things that demand more of our time. One way is to get a massage where you usually are and that place is work. There is a reason employees are called working stiffs, but with some straightforward massage techniques, you can get some relaxation while you crunch up those numbers and push those papers.

Self massage is a good way to work out many of the aches and pains, but a masseaur can reach places you’ll never touch. That trick is to let the pros and their fingertips do the work.

For a 14 day e-course in self-massage go here.
You can also check out our pages on massage therapy and several massage videos.

It would be very cool if this reading actually took place and even better if all three readings took place. It would pretty much guarantee that this bill would die a much deserved death.

The following is from the Washington Times:

The 2,074-page Senate health care bill would take 34 hours to read cover to cover — and that’s just what Sen. Tom Coburn wants done on the Senate floor.

The Oklahoma Republican has threatened to invoke parliamentary rules to force the Senate clerk (or more likely, a team of clerks) to read the massive bill before the full Senate begins formal debate on the legislation.

The move is strictly according to Senate rules, which say any senator can demand a bill be read in its entirety before debate begins….

What’s even more interesting is that Senate Rule XIV (paragraph 2) states that every bill and joint resolution “shall receive three readings prior to its passage.”

Read the rest, here

It would be very cool if this reading actually took place and even better if all three readings took place. It would pretty much guarantee that this bill would die a much deserved death.

In case you’re wondering I’m oppossed to all flavors of the Dem health care “reform” bills working their ways through Congress. The US has the best health care system in the world (even with whatever warts it may have) and the bills do nothing to address the real problems.

Their version of reform is kinda like this: “Hmmm… you have a small cut on your ankle… Ok, we’ll fix it by taking off the leg at the knee….”

Or better yet: You’re mugged, thrown into a dark room, blindfolded, strapped to a table, face down, clothes removed, and now the negotiations start… How about we skip that entire scenario and start negotiating from zero?

Also, beyond the fact that it’s an awful bill is the fact that we can’t begin to pay for it, especially with the current economic situation. The estimated costs are, in my opinion, vastly underestimated. Look at all other Gov health care programs, state and federal, in the US or elsewhere, and you’ll see that the costs rapidly overwhelm the estimates and I see nothing to indicate that this bill will be any different. Especially given the pork and favors that will be included in any bill that makes it to the floor.

Tax the rich to pay for it? They pay pretty much all of the taxes in the country already. Adding to that burden, when they’re already over-taxed and when there are far superior alternatives, is just wrong.

So I’ll probably be throwing in a few posts on the subject. Feel free to comment.

This is a syndicated article. And you know what? I particularly like the topic. One of the hardest things in my life has been to get my mindset pointed in a forward direction. It’s way too easy to get into that downward spiral. Putting one’s head in the right place is a habit and that habit takes some work to get started (if you haven’t started already.) Here’s the article:

Inside A Champion’s Mind

How many times have you heard a true champion speak with doubt? How many times have you heard a boxer say, “It will be a tough fight, we will just have to wait until Saturday and see how it all works out”? Never, because doubt will knock you out before you even begin.

The athletes that are remembered are always those that performed memorably during times of pressure. I say memorably because they could be remembered for choking or rising to the occasion. Anyone who has played competitive sports knows that there is a different feeling during a play-off game, but as with all things in life, that by itself is not a bad thing, it is all in the way you handle it.

People are disturbed not by things but by the view they take of them– Epictetus 200AD

If you let self-doubt enter your mind, anxiety is sure to grow. Once you start to doubt whether you are capable of winning you’re on your way to disaster, because the mind can only hold one thought at a time. You are either thinking of winning, and visualizing what winning will be like, or you are worrying about what happens if you don’t win. You can only hold one picture at a time. Sure some athletes waver back and forth, but at any given time you can only be holding one thought.

What the mind sees, feels, and thinks, it works towards. The mind needs to be given direction and then it works towards making that given destination a reality. The mind is constantly working towards results, the trouble is what directions are we giving the mind. When you learn how to control your mind, greatness is achievable. Learning how to think like a winner is the first step towards better personal motivation.

To Become a champion, you must first look and act like a champion. — Muhammad Ali

Some people say you cannot control what comes into your mind. I believe with the proper training you can. Regardless of whether or not you can or cannot control what enters your mind, you can definitely control how long you hold any thought that does enter your mind. If a seagull decides to have a bowel movement while flying overhead, you cannot exactly control that but you sure the heck can control how quickly you clean yourself off.

It is the same with your mind. When a negative thought enters, clean it out with a flood of positive images. Focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want. Focus on winning, not on not losing. Begin to daydream, make this daydream the ideal outcome. Not what you will settle for, but what would be perfect.

There are many courses and books on motivation tips to help you with this.

It’s not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you are not. — Denis Waitley

Stumbled onto an interesting post day, about a clinic using Laser Therapy to help with smoking.

We soon discovered laser therapy and were able to quit smoking in just 1 day. A month later my father, Ken moved down from Pennsylvania and was amazed that I was finally able to quit smoking. After smoking for 43 years, he was able to quit with just one laser therapy treatment. After months of research and setting up FDA studies, Mark, Melissa and Ken opened up Healing Laser Clinics of Central Florida under the direction of their Medical Director, Dr. Michael Dillehay.

here’s the rest of the article

Now I have no idea how something like a laser treatment can help with an addiction, and the article doesn’t say, but if it’s even a fraction as effective as the testimonials indicate then it might be worth looking into.

Massage therapy is a broad term that encompasses a wide variety of healing procedures and methods and is generally composed of pressing, rubbing and manipulating muscles...

Massage therapy is a broad term that encompasses a wide variety of healing procedures and methods and is generally composed of pressing, rubbing and manipulating muscles and soft body tissues such as tendons, ligaments, skin and connective tissues.

The main objective of massage therapy is to relax the soft tissues while promoting an increased delivery of blood and oxygen to the areas being massages and, therefore, to decrease tightness and pain and stress. Massage therapy is most often accomplished by utilizing the massage therapist’s own fingers, hands, arms, elbows and/or feet. Occasionally, however, mechanical and electronic devices may be also used.

Massage Therapy is an umbrella term for a whole series of more specific body manipulation therapies. As a matter of fact, there are more than eighty official types of massage therapy treatments, as well as many unofficial types, but a few of the most widely known therapies are the following:

* The Deep Tissue Massage. This technique uses a combination of strokes and deep finger pressure applied way down under the skin and into the muscles at the painful sites in order to breakup knots and loosen tightness.

* The Trigger Point Massage. This procedure is also known as the Pressure Point Massage and it is more focused on specific myofascial trigger points with a stronger force than the Deep Tissue Massage. The goal here is to dissolve the painful knots that were formed in the muscles as well as to relieve additional symptoms in more remote areas of the body.

* The Swedish Massage. This system utilizes oblong smooth strokes, kneading and friction of the muscles as well as movement of the joints to increase their range of motion and flexibility.

* The Shiatsu Massage. Using altering rhythmic pressure, tapping, squeezing, and rubbing along the meridian lines and on various other parts of the body, the main objective of this Eastern massage therapy is to enhance the flow of the gi (also, Ki or Chi.) This energy, in the lore of ancient Chinese medicine, is believed to be the life force that regulates a person’s spiritual, emotional, mental and physical wellness. it is easily affected when subjected to the rival forces of yin and yang.

The massage therapies mentioned above, as well as all the others, are also referred to as complimentary alternative medicine (also known as CAM.) Regardless of the specific therapy used, there are important points to be considered:

No massage therapy should ever be used in place of regular or ongoing medical care. It’s a complement, not a replacement.

Massage therapy should not be the cause or the excuse to postpone visiting a medical professional for existing medical issues.

Make sure you are comfortable with your massage therapist’s schooling, credentials, and technique as well as his or her experience with specific health and medical conditions.

Any additional complimentary alternative medicine (CAM) such as herbs, supplements, special diets or other treatments which are suggested by the massage therapist must first be reviewed with a medical professional.

If and when massage therapy is performed, preferably by a well trained and experienced professional, few risks are involved and the worst of them may simply be temporary pain or discomfort, bruising, swelling or an allergic reaction to the massage oils.

The small number of serious injuries which have been reported were triggered by untrained hands that were not aware that certain medical conditions should not be massaged. It is, therefore, essential to consult a qualified professional before undergoing massage therapy as a primary treatment for whatever condition you may have. Here are several conditions where any form of massage therapy should be done under qualified supervision:

Deep vein thrombosis

A bleeding disorder or when taking blood thinners

Damaged blood vessels

Weakened bones from osteoporosis, a recent fracture or cancer

The presence of high body temperature

Open or healing wounds, tumors, damaged nerves, an infection, a severe inflammation or fragile skin

Pregnancy

Heart problems

Dermatomyositis or any other skin disease

History of physical abuse

Certainly the various massage therapies are great for loosening tight muscles, relieving stress, increasing blood flow to an area, and so on. The effect this this has on the various hormones of the body, as well as on the positive mental outlook are certainly beneficial. Just make sure that if you have a serious condition that you’re working with a professional, as well.

I posted an article written by Asbestos.net that might be interesting if asbestos is a concern to you. Here’s a snip:

Mesothelioma is a from of lung cancer that is almost always caused by asbestos exposure and is most commonly found in the outer lining of the lungs (called the mesothelium.) A majority of the people who develop mesothelioma contract this cancer through breathing in asbestos fibers or being exposed to asbestos dust while on the job.

In cases where mesothelioma is found in a person with no previous occupational exposure it is thought that the exposure may have stemmed from asbestos fibers found on the clothes of someone in their home or workplace who worked in an area where asbestos dust was found.

the rest >> Mesothelioma and Asbestos Exposure

While I think that much of the flap regarding asbestos is generated by trial lawyers and people looking for big payoffs there really is a there there and many people really have come down with serious asbestos issues. It is certainly stuff you do not want to have in your lungs. Asbestos.net looks like it has a lot of good info if asbestos is a concern of yours, so check out the article.

No it’s not a wave of the magic wand, it’s the understanding of how best to use your time. John Reese has a killer article that I think should be read by everyone who ever says, “…now where did the time go…”

Think about the points he makes as you get ready for your New Year’s Resolutions.

Have you ever seen the Hugh Grant movie, About A Boy?

If you haven’t seen it you should rent it because it’s a great movie. But if you have seen it then you’ll recognize the following quote from Grant’s character “Will”…

I find the key is to think of a day as units of time, each unit consisting of no more than thirty minutes. Full hours can be a little bit intimidating and most activities take about half an hour. Taking a bath: one unit, watching countdown: one unit, web-based research: two units, exercising: three units, having my hair carefully disheveled: four units. It’s amazing how the day fills up, and I often wonder, to be absolutely honest, if I’d ever have time for a job; how do people cram them in?
